Okay, let's hear it…

What's your plan of action for cranking it up in 2010?

Remember, right now people are open to new ideas and changing their habits – so RIGHT NOW is the perfect time to position your school and YOU as THE martial arts and/or fitness expert in your area.

So, let us hear from you about how you plan to do it – and remember, the more people who post, the more ideas we all have to draw from.

Okay, I see a ot of people are lurking, but none are posting their plans so let me make this easy for you…

If you don't want to post specifics, don't.

If you want to post anonymously, just enter your first name and a generic email (in case you don't want your competition to know what you're up to – but honestly, most people aren't action-takers so it probably won't matter).

As for me, well -

Personally, I plan to follow through on the goals I've set for myself this year. In 2009 I had a ton of projects on my list, but only got around to actually doing a fraction of them.

Why? I allowed myself to get distracted. So, this year's theme is focus + follow-through.

I started back in Nov. by posting an ad with the school district.  I will be handed out to all the elementry and middle school students in a packet at the beginning of school.  It will also remain posted on the district web site for the semester.

cost $200.

Nice! For $200, you can't beat that kind of exposure.

The overall plan is… survival. Our area is really dependent on housing and the "easy money" is gone and probably won't be back for a while.

This means we're ramping up EVERYTHING. Print advertising. Web pages. We've added fitness classes over the last couple of years and we're pushing that aspect of the business over "pure" martial arts. BootCamp and Kickboxing were more profitable than MA last year.

We've been teaching Mixed Martial Arts for several years and plan to increase our focus on that curriculum as well, working on the "kid friendly" aspects of the art, particularly grappling.

We've bought a new building (buildings and money were both cheap – our mortgage is about the same as our rent was!) in a better location and hope to actually have "drive by" business this year. That means investing in (more) banners and signs as well as holding classes outdoors.

That's all that comes to mind – gotta get that ad finished for the paper!

Good plan! Also, buying a building in a better location with zero increase in overhead was a smart, smart move.

Keep us posted on how it goes!

Ok guys, this is what I've got mapped out for 2010.  I know its sounds crazy, but I figure if I could open up and survive last year, if I bust *** as hard as I  did last year, I should really start to fly in 2010.

Goals for 2010

1. To have 60 paying Karate memberships by Dec 2010 @ 119 per month

2. To have 25 Paying Cardio Memberships by Dec 2010 @ 59 per month

3. To have 20 SDBBP Members by Dec 2010 @ 149 per month

     My plan looks like this:

Marketing Flyers everywhere that will take them.

Snipe signs every month at least 50.

Banner up every other month for a solid month.

Banner up on my other business property.

Get Vehicle signage for my wife's SUV too.

Get lighting for my outside overhead sign

Get certification for 2nd phase of SDBBP and 1rst phase Grappling

Get my personal Trainers Certification.

Those are my goals for 2010.  I think I will add to them by summer because in all honesty, I have other than the body count, most everything else already in place and am chipping away at them as we speak.

  To break it down:

 Quarter 1

Launch SDBBP tomorrow night.  So by end of 1rst quarter need to have at least 5 stand alone SDBBP members. I have 5 from my Karate entering the class on Tuesday.

Need to have enrolled 15 New Karate Members in 2010 at 119 (hopefully 129 though) Yudansha Kai membership

Need to have enrolled 10 New Cardio Members

  Quarter 2

Need to enroll 10 SDBBP members

Need to enroll another 15 Karate Members

Need to enroll another 10 Cardio Members

  Quarter 3

Need to enroll another 15 Karate Members

Need to enroll another 10 Cardio Members

Need to enroll another 10 SDBBP Members

Quarter 4

Need to enroll another 15 Karate Members

Need to enroll another 10 Cardio Members

Need to enroll another 10 SDBBP Members

Now I know the numbers add up to way more than my yearly goals, but I know how people start and then stop and you lose people to daily life so this should padd it enough to if I were to lose every single member I have now I should still hit my goals and hopefully surpass them.

What I have found out this last year is that my karate members really have stuck around.  I think this last year I only lost about 8 members, so I know I'm doing MY JOB as an instructor.  I just need to get the word out better this year.  And with the help of MIKE I'm sure I can do that.Wink

I really feel like 2010 is going to be MY year.  I am already hearing and seeing people now in town, where the first thing they ask me is "hey how's your karate school doing?  We've heard such and such talking about it."  That's what you want to start happening.  After 11 long . . .long months, the wheel is finally starting to turn for me.  Now I gotta push it up to about 55 m.p.h. Laugh

I post monthly to let everyone know how its going.

                              Let's go get em' guys.

Robby, I'm impressed with your vision. Most folks don't take the time to write down specific goals. I believe you'll experience greater and faster progress by doing so.

Just remember to revisit your goals weekly and compare them to your stats so you can adjust your marketing plan according to your results.
